Intro
This course continues the development of mechanical drawing skills using drafting tools and techniques. Students will also work extensively with AutoCAD, Inventor (OnShape if virtual). In addition to geometric construction, orthographic projection views, other styles and instruction will be provided on career and higher level educational programs, manufacturing processes, revolutions, threads and fasteners, pictorial drawings, cams and gears, structural, electronic, and architectural drafting. 3D modeling using Inventor will also be a major focus along with 3D printing. The course is recommended for students who are planning any type of engineering, mechanical or industrial career.
Drawings
Mechanical
Mechanical drafting is my least favorite unit out of this entire course. It's tedious and if you mess up you have to go back and erase it which ends up leaving marks on your paper. But, I think it's important to at least try it because it helps you build basic skills and helps you get a better understanding of drafting.
AutoCAD
OnShape
OnShape Assemblies
OnShape is by far my favorite unit. I really like drawing the objects and then seeing them become 3D. It has a lot of tools and anybody can use it anywhere. Once we got into the harder drawings I started to really enjoy it, I enjoyed being challenged and pushed to do new things.
Material Presentation
The material I chose to present is brass. I chose brass because it's a very versatile material and is used in a lot of things like plumbing, roofs, electrical sockets and a lot more. Its a very important to how houses are made because it's used in plumbing so I decided to choose because later in the course we do an Architecture unit.
Problem Solving Week
Metal Block Tower
In the Metal Block Tower project I got 4th place, I didn't like this one as much as the slow roller because nothing was moving and it just stood there so testing it and building it wasn't as fun for me.
Slow Roller
In the Slow Roller project I got 3rd place. This is my favorite project rom problem solving week, I enjoyed building and testing it and seeing how slow I could make it.
Concrete Project
We made 3 vases, one with a solo cup and two with some leftover containers, for the middle vase we 3d printed a tubes and glued them together so it went to the bottom. For the leftover containers we took some plastic tubes we found and cut them and put them in. The concrete project was a new thing for me and I enjoyed it. I've never done any work with concrete before so I enjoyed learning and trying new things. It wasn't super challenging, but the only thing we had a little trouble with was getting the right consistency of the concrete so that it would cure well, but after we got that down the rest of the project was easy.
